UWSCC votes to remain independent

On May 1st a merger was announced between United Way of Southeastern PA and the United Ways located in southern New Jersey. Although UWSCC was included in those discussions, our board voted to remain independent and devoted to serving the needs of southern Chester County.

Our focus has always been local. Our Kennett Square location keeps us in close touch with our area's non-profits. The decision to remain independent will allow us to continue to identify unmet needs in our community, build coalitions to create solutions that fit our area's unique needs, and ensure that donations made to us are put to work in our own community.

We are proud of our organization and grateful for your support. As the largest funder for local non-profits in our area, we remain committed to improve the lives of our neighbors in need.

The funding decisions for 2012/13 have been made. This process (called Allocations) involved over 50 trained volunteers from our community. They reviewed requests, analyzed agencies' financial positions and ability to achieve results with your funds, and quizzed the agencies directly about their proposed programs in face-to-face presentations.

WE WILL BE AWARDING $900,000 TO 32 NON-PROFIT PROGRAMS SERVING SOUTHERN CHESTER COUNTY.

One of the benefits of making a donation directly to this United Way is that you can be assured that we are thoroughly vetting the agencies who receive your dollars. They are held to account each year for any funds awarded to them. UWSCC takes very seriously the stewardship of your donations to us.
